Giving Thanks Week Four

Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone.  It was a pretty hectic week, but really enjoyable.  We got to spend time with great friends, and met some new friends, ate some great food (not much of which I had to cook), cleaned the house, skyped with family, and put up the Christmas decor. We also got to spend a good amount of quality time together, just the four of us.  Plus our house had two showings.  We are gearing up

Giving Thanks week Three

This week has started out pretty rough with illness going around the household.  I have managed to stay fairly healthy compared to the rest of them.  We took little Millie to the doc a few days ago.  She started crying after nap and didn't stop for nearly three hours until we were able to get her in.  Turns out she has a pretty nasty chest cold and an ear infection.  I was really hoping she didn't have an ear infection.  We got lucky with Duncan, he has never had one.  The doc said that if they don't have any by the time that they are two they probably never will.  I have had ear aches before, but never an ear infection that I can remember.  I can't imagine how painful that must be on such a little thing.  Duncan and Chris are both battling a chest and head cold.  We were told that it wasn't contagious anymore unless in direct contact (coughed on etc.), so here is hoping that anyone we visit with aren't struck by it as well.  Our house is going to smell like Lysol for a while anyway.  I really can't afford to get it at this point.  Chris needs to get over it soon or we might have to postpone his surgery yet again.  So with all of that being said, it has been pretty easy to find things to be thankful for so far.

Prayer.  I am so very grateful for the peace of prayer.  It is a quiet tranquility that cannot be duplicated.

Giving Thanks Week Two

`Here is to another week of being thankful for all of our very many blessings.  I am finding it harder to narrow down the list and still be descriptive... but here it goes...

Good health and Modern Medicine.  Our family has been sick this past week.  It hasn't been anything too terrible, mostly head colds.  I am so thankful that neither of my kids get sick easily, and when they do it isn't anything very terrible.  Duncan has only been really sick once when he was about a year (he caught the flu and took three full weeks to get better).  Even then he didn't have to go to the hospital or anything.  The most Millie has had is a cold, and I am still not convinced that it isn't just teething.  On the injury front we haven't had the best of luck.  But even with injuries in the family there has been nothing life threatening... a few stitches, some torn muscles, aches and pains for a while.  With the exception of Chris' knee, which will take a while to heal after surgery and physical therapy.  Even with that, nothing permanent, no broken bones, no long hospital stays... I am SO thankful.

Giving Thanks Week One

I have seen a myriad of posts already this month about giving thanks.  It occurred to me that it would be a wonderful thing for me to participate in.  There has been a distinct funk going on in this house over the last few weeks, and reflecting on all of the things that we (that I) am grateful for would be a wonderful change of scenery.  A new month (nearly) and a fresh start.

Hurry up and wait...

October was a long month for us.  It seems to be that way every year.  October hits hard, but when it is over we meekly peek through slitted lids to see if the smoke has cleared.  Then we sit back and wonder where the year went.
This year's October seemed especially packed with emotion, and not just for my hormonally imbalanced and pregnant self.  Quiet a few family members had a rough month too.  Lots of highs and lows all around.  Maybe it is the season change.
